Reporting to the Supervisor of Plant Operation and Maintenance, the principal duties of a Stationary Engineer are operation, maintenance and monitoring of the building automation system, HVAC system including chiller and boiler plant, water treatment systems, fire alarm systems, pneumatic tube system, medical gas and other mechanical/electrical systems or equipment. He/she will also make rounds in the mechanical rooms and respond to trouble calls from various departments throughout the hospital, rectifies or isolates the problems and ensures continuity of their related operation.
Acknowledges alarms and review computer printout of building automation, fire alarm, pneumatic tube, and medical gas systems; troubleshoot and try to clear alarms.
Operates chillers, cooling towers, steam boilers, hot water boilers and their auxiliary and ancillary equipment, promptly responds to their alarms, troubleshoots, fixes or isolates them.
Cleans and maintains cooling tower, chiller tubes and fire chamber of hot water and steam boilers
Performs preventive maintenance on air compressors, air dryer, actuators, regulator, valves and control airlines as required.
Monitor diesel generator fuel supplies and schedule deliveries as needed.
Responds to fire alarm and other emergency codes, reset fire alarm panel and other related equipment upon the request of the Fire Marshal.
Responds to elevator’s troubles, Initiate elevator service calls when patients, staff or visitors are trapped in, and inform Supervisor for other related emergency service calls.
Responds to the maintenance and trouble calls at all times as requested and trouble shoots, perform minor repairs or isolates the problems; consults supervisor for after hour service calls.
Inspect plants equipment and facility’s mechanical rooms on a daily basis and fill out the necessary log sheets
Inspect and replace filters in medical air system, cooling and heating water systems and water treatment systems
Perform water treatment tests and do treatment as needed.
Maintain Logs and write reports as required and requested.
Keeping work area orderly, clean and safe.
Ensures proper care in the use of equipment and supplies.
Maintain records and information pertinent to work assignments.
Closes PM and routine work orders on the PDA after completing work assignments
Provide technical assistance and advice as directed by the Plant Operations Supervisor.
Assist with the care and maintenance of the Department’s equipment and supplies.
Adhere to the Department’s established policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance and safety guidelines.
Ensure that due diligence is exercised in the use of equipment and supplies.
Observe health and safety rules and regulations appropriate to the area and work situation consistent with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and other legislated enactment. This includes strict adherence to the Lockout/Tag-out Policy.
Assist in the coordination of work activities with various client groups in an efficient manner.
Search specifications, schematics, drawings, O&M manuals in order to make repairs and adjustments to equipment and machinery as necessary.
Keep and maintain records as required.
Participate in educational programs and in-service trainings.
Attends meetings as required.
Is expected to work on 8 hour shift with potential shift work and be available on short notice for shift coverage, overtime and being on-call if necessary
Provides verbal and written reports as requested.
Completes assigned tasks in a professional and workmanlike manner. and close the work orders within time frame given in response time policy.
Communicate the work status with the client groups via central call center within the time frame given in response time policy.
Adheres to the occupational health and safety acts and other legislative enactment.
Represent the department with a positive and professional attitude.
Maintain an industry level standard productivity level
Perform other duties consistent with the job classification, as required and as assigne4d by the supervisor or manager

Maintains safe cleaning and sanitation practices throughout all department functions according to the OHA standards and guidelines
Handles chemicals and equipment in a safe manner according to the standards of the department

Adheres to hospital and departmental policies and procedures
Complies with good safety and housekeeping habits
Education and Training
This job required a mininum of Grade XII Diploma with a Ontario Third Class Stationary Engineer’s Certificate or Building Operator Certificate/Diploma or equivalent
Ability to read, write and speak English fluently
Ability to read mechanical, Electrical and control drawing
Knowledge of building automation system, chiller, boiler, water treatment & fire alarm system is required.
Honeywell fire alarm, pneumatic tube and Medical Gas System exprience will be preferred
A minimum of 5 years experience working in a similar capacity is required to develop the level of competency needed in this position.
