The Foreperson will organize and conduct summer and winter highway maintenance operations/activities in accordance with MTO/Carillion policies and procedures.
Organizing and carrying out all assigned routine/non-routine summer and winter highway and emergency maintenance operations/activities undertaken from the assigned Patrol Centre by staff assigned to the Patrol. Winter responsibilities include being a Night Patroller.
Maintenance operations performed from these centres will include activities that include traffic control, emergency responses, highway surface maintenance, R/W maintenance (fence repair, litter pick-up, grass cutting, shrub/tree maintenance, embankment repair, etc.), highway patrolling, shoulder maintenance/grading, plowing, sanding/salting, drainage maintenance, etc.
In addition to the above, you will be responsible for managing assigned staff and for maintaining accurate, neat, up-to-date records, accident reports, work diaries, time sheets (personnel, equipment) etc. required to support the day to day maintenance operations performed by you and/or your assigned staff working out of the patrol centres.
Other duties as requested by your Supervisor.
As Foreperson you will be expected to:
Assist patrol staff in performing satisfactorily all highway maintenance and emergency assignments in a manner that promotes cost effective operations, staff co-operation and is performed in a safe manner and environment at all times.
Be helpful and friendly at all times to members of the public, property owners, members of Public Agencies, Ministry of Transportation staff and officials, etc.
Have as a minimum a current DZ licence with a clean abstract
Must be well organized, self-motivated with a positive attitude.
Experience in scheduling and managing maintenance staff in an effective, efficient, safe and productive manner preferred
Available and willing to work after-hours during emergencies and under exceptional conditions
Willing to work shifts when required due to scheduled operations
Be familiar with Ontario’s Occupational Health and Safety Act, Highway Traffic Act and its Regulations as well as Book 7, Temporary Conditions , Field edition
Demonstrated written, oral, listening and computer communication skills
