General Maintenance Technician (x5 Positions) Vancouver Airport

Reporting to the Supervisor or Manager of Facility Maintenance; the General Maintenance Technician will be responsible for general maintenance and repairs to facilities as well as maintenance duties in line with the Preventative Maintenance Program.

This position will involve access to secured areas and thus any successful candidates will need to qualify for a Security Clearance I.D Card.

We are looking for x5 General Maintenance Technicians to work on a 24/7 shift rotation at Vancouver Airport

 Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
General Duties:

  • Millwork laminate, moldings & hardware repairs
  • Repair of tile and laminate flooring
  • Repair of walls (drywall & painting)
  • Servicing & repair of manual doors
  • Glass/glazing repair & replacement
  • Inspection and cleaning
  • Maintenance and repairs of water features
  • Cleaning of a variety of filters for duct systems
  • Maintenance of belts and pulleys for air handling units, fans and fan coils
  • Transport of tools and materials to work sites

Quality Management:

  • Maintain records and information pertinent to work assignments
  • Provide technical assistance and advice as directed by the Director
  • Adhere to departmental policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance and safety guidelines
  • Ensure due diligence is exercised in the use of equipment and supplies
  • Ensure (and enforce) observation of guidelines, rules and regulations related to health and safety of work by subordinates
  • Ensure and enforce strict adherence to the Lock Out/Tag Out Policy by subordinates

Responsibilities/other duties:

  • Participate in educational programs and in-service training
  • Attend required meetings and participate in monthly staff meetings
  • Provide verbal and written reports as requested
  • Complete assigned tasks in a professional and workmanlike manner; and ensure work orders are completed/closed in line with the time frames outlined in the Response Time Policy
  • Adhere to the OH&S Act; and other required health & safety legislation
  • Any other duties as required


Education and Training:

  • Grade 12 Diploma essential and post secondary education preferred

  • General understanding of mechanical systems.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;

  • Ability to read, write and speak English fluently

  • 2 years in a similar position or in a general laboring environment

  • Strong painting, drywall and tiling experience

  • Familiar with MS word, excel and database

Physical demands of the job:

  • Minimal exertion (sitting, standing, walking) – up to 80%
  • Moderate exertion (some climbing, extensive walking) – up to 30%
  • Heavy lifting (over 10kg/22lbs) – up to 30%

Additional information/requirements:

  • 40 hours per week with overtime, RRSP and full benefits.
  • Must pass security clearance (full background and criminal checks)
  • Full clean drivers license
