Petawawa, ON

Reporting directly to the Technical Supervisor conducting minor repairs to the DCC Petawawa housing stock. This role includes a variety of maintenance duties in and around buildings and grounds. This position will also assist other trades in completing their tasks and responds to Fire Alarms as part of the fire response team.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assists trades by performing routine tasks
  • Assists with HVAC cleaning maintenance, etc.,
  • Will perform snow removal and de-icing and will do garbage pick-up as instructed
  • Completes work requests in a timely fashion, ensuring that the task closure is accurately completed and submitted for inputting
  • Works in line with the Quality Management system
  • Participates in educational programs and in-service trainings
  • Attends meetings as required
  • Is expected to be available for a certain amount of overtime and being on-call if necessary
  • Provides verbal and written reports as requested
  • Completes assigned tasks in a professional and workmanlike manner maintaining or replacing existing architectural finishes and aesthetics
  • Completes assigned tasks and close the work orders within time frame given in response time policy
  • Communicate the work status with the client groups via central call center within the time frame given in response time policy
  • Adheres to the occupational health and safety acts and other legislative enactment
  • Represent the department with a positive and professional attitude
  • The handyman also responds to assist to all response tasks as assisted
  • Perform other related duties as required and as assigned by the supervisor or manager

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications and experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Either enrolled or completed a recognized certified trade course
  • Should have 3-5 years of experience in a maintenance/ construction environment
  • Must have initiative and the ability to work on own
  • Positive outlook, good communication and interpersonal skills are required
  • Must be computer literate

  • Documented proof of Worker or Supervisor health and safety awareness training, as applicable (as per Ontario’s Occupational Health and Safety Act regulations). This training can be provided to the successful candidate if needed.
