Health & Safety Advisor (Roads)

The purpose of the job is to provide health and safety support and professional advice, including the development of strategies to proactively deliver health and safety programs primarily for the Carillion Alberta Roads South CMA. In addition, the role will ensure adherence to Carillion Canada health and safety standards, industry standards and best practices throughout business sectors. This position will be based out of one of the Southern Alberta Depot locations. The nearest city is Calgary but applicants living in the Calgary or Edmonton region will be considered.
Developing and implementing strategies that will improve health and safety performance to approved target levels
Provide professional advice that will ensure compliance to legislation, industry and company standards
Raise awareness of health and safety through identification of training needs, planning and delivering training
Conduct accident and incident investigations and provide support in the effective management for the incidents
Audit KPI roll out throughout business areas
Work with Safety Leadership Team to implement standards
Visit job sites and audit H&S program
Assist with closing gaps discovered in audits
Provide written reports
Identify gaps in system that warrants new programs to be developed
Communicate and actively engage with Carillion workers, third party contractors: Monitor adherence to H&S standards
Communicate with enforcement officers: provide information and assistance as required
Ensure that the H&S contractual arrangements and reporting requirements with Alberta Transportation are completed within specified timescales.
Closely liaise with Alberta Transportationâ€™s safety coordinator to ensure that we have a seamless approach to safety with the client.
University education or equivalent formal training and experience in health and safety
CRSP, NCSO or other equivalent designation preferred
8 - 10 years or more of health and safety experience
Thorough knowledge of health and safety both theory and technical.
Understanding of H&S legislation and requirements.
Experience in the roads maintenance industry is an asset
Ability to work in a fast paced environment
