Maintenance Electrician (Vancouver Airport)

Reporting to the Supervisor, Manager of Facility Maintenance, the principal duties of an Electrician are to trouble shoot, repair, replace and install any component of the Airport's lighting systems with voltage (up to 750 volt) electrical systems including but not limited to wiring, cabling, conduit, transformers, circuit breakers, electrical disconnects, light fixtures, motors, sensors, control panels.

General Duties

  • Analyses electrical drawings, specifications and instructions to troubleshoots, repairs and replaces/installs components (up to 750V).
  • Installs electrical circuits and all types of electrical equipment and appliances including grounding leads, lighting fixtures, life safety systems, and other circuits as needed
  • Replacement of bulbs, ballasts in lamp standard in parking lots
  • Relamp street lighting, replacing ballasts and washing the lenses
  • Replacing light fixtures and complete circuits according to drawings and Specs.
  • Relamp high mast and apron lighting on airside
  • Traces, inspects and tests circuits, instruments and faulty operations.
  • Isolates and repairs source of trouble and fault in electrical system and any type of electrical equipment and control devices
  • Replaces and/or repairs faulty components including switches, sockets, ballasts, light bulbs/tubes and other simple elements of electrical systems.
  • Implement scheduled preventive maintenance program for power equipment such as transformers, breakers, disconnects, capacitor banks and switchgears, HVAC equipments and devices such as motors..
  • Keeping work area orderly, clean and safe.
  • Ensures proper care in the use of lift equipment and supplies.

Quality Management

  • Maintains records and information pertinent to work assignment.
  • Closes PM and routine work orders on the Maximo, completing work assignment.
  • Provides written estimates on work related repairs and / or new construction projects as requested.
  • Provide technical assistance and advice as requested by the supervisor.
  • Adheres to the departments established policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance and safety guidelines.
  • Ensures that due diligence is exercised in the use of lift equipments and supplies.
  • Observes guidelines, rules and regulations of health and safety as well as to the area of work
  • Strict adherence to the lock out /tag out policy
  • Assists in the coordination of work activity with various client groups in the efficient completion manner.
  • Makes lay out sketches for job when required.
  • Researches specifications, drawings, O & M manuals in order to make repairs and adjustments as is necessary.
  • Meets with sales representatives in the selection of parts and equipment if required.


  • Participates in educational programs and in-service trainings.
  • Attends meetings as required.
  • Is expected to be available for a certain amount of overtime and being on-call if necessary
  • Provides verbal and written reports as requested.
  • Completes assigned tasks in a professional and workmanlike manner.
  • Completes assigned tasks and close the work orders within time frame given in response time policy.
  • Communicate the work status with the client groups via central call center within the time frame given in response time policy.
  • Adheres to the occupational health and safety acts and other legislative enactment.
  • Represent the department with a positive and professional attitude.
  • Maintain an industry level standard productivity level

Other Duties

  • Perform other duties consistent with the job classification, as required and as assigned by the supervisor or manager.
  • Understands and practices safety in all duties
  • Maintains safe clean practices throughout all departments
  • Reports any hazardous or unsafe situations and ensures necessary action is taken to correct problem
  • Adheres to departmental policies and procedures
  • Complies with good safety and housekeeping habits
  • Grade XII Diploma with at least 5 years of experience required
  • Valid B.C. Electrician Certificate-Red Seal
  • Ability to read, write and speak English fluently
  • Ability to read Electrical (including Controls) blueprints
