Reporting to theSenior Vice President, Building, the VP Mechanical and Electrical Services will provide direction, technical expertise and business leadership within the M&E Services at Carillion Canada. The incumbent will be responsible for coaching and mentoring engineering personnel and assisting with the development of Carillion’s projects, departmental standards and overall performance efficiencies.

Responsibilities: 
  • Submits detailed M&E estimates for bids to grow the work done by Carillion Canada
  • Commissions Responsibility Matrix for P3 Projects
  • Oversees Target Zero – Safety Initiative within M&E Group
  • Develops a WSIB Policy for Outside Consultants
  • On an ongoing basis improves support for Facilities Management to strengthen their competitiveness
  • Cultivates relationships with clients that will optimize work winning opportunities in selected sectors
  • Develops relationships across Carillion and externally to understand potential customers requirements and drivers to feed into bid submissions and strengthen the offering and perception of Carillion in the market
  • Holds financial accountability for business development performance and risk
  • Implements modifications to current processes where necessary
  • Monitors engineering standards, templates, and initiatives for quality, efficiency, safety, delivery and cost; implements modifications where necessary
  • Provides mechanical and electrical strategic directions
  • Maintains current on new engineering technologies, trends, processes and relevant legislation
  • Oversees tactical and strategic activities related to the mechanical and electrical engineering operations
  • Provides support to Managers as required
  • Manages the performance of the engineering group to achieve engineering design deliverables on time and within budget
  • Hires and develops a motivated M&E Services team that can provide Carillion’s clients with top notch consulting and project management solutions
  • Reviews and approves all technical design specifications prepared by engineering staff
  • Maintains engineering standards across projects and studies by identifying and implementing best practices, carrying out high level reviews and holding the team to account for quality
  • Provides technical engineering support to others within the organization, including sales and business development, estimating and proposals, and project management.
  • Attends and presents at meetings with internal and external stakeholders
  • Provides feedback to direct reports on technical research and Value Engineering Ideas related to improving Carillion’s NPV
  • Assesses opportunities to lower Carillion’s bid NPV by exploiting contradictions and gaps in the PA and RFP
  • Reviews and approves reports, research, risk assessments, standards, and bids
  • Oversees expedited Pricing information from the Mechanical and Electrical Partners
  • Finalizes pricing breakdowns
  • Participates in separate Mechanical and Electrical design Meetings with our Partners, Consultants and Facilities Management team members as needed
  • Provides Mechanical and Electrical scheduling input
  • Obtains and reviews cash Flow Forecast from Carillion’s partners
  • Reviews Carillion’s partners pricing to ensure competitiveness
  • Ensures there are no gaps in the scope of work between Carillion’s mechanical and electrical partners (he/she is especially careful on division 15 wiring responsibilities)
  • Ensures no gaps exist in systems integration
Requirements: 
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience managing and overseeing large and complex projects mechanical and/or electrical design consulting, budgets, and design-build functions
  • Experience in building and/or civil projects with values from $100 Million to $500 Million would be a definite asset together with experience in the management of design
  • Gold Seal Certification from Canadian Construction Association or International CIOB or AIC, including relevant education from a recognized college/university pertaining to the construction industry would be an asset
  • MBA degree is an asset
  • Highly developed verbal, written and presentation skills to build differentiated relationships with customers and their influencers/stakeholders
